RESPITE CAMPS
Respite Camps for Aged & Disability Services Inc.
In 1994 we began holding 3-day ‘Option’ camps for Wyong and Gosford Aged Disability Services and Hunter Respite. These camps cater for a variety of different clients, including Frail Aged, Intellectually Delayed, Dementia and Young Disabled. Since then the number of camps have steadily grown due to their popularity.
Activities at these camps include ‘live’ entertainment, bingo, craft, bus trips, games, cooking, hand and feet massages, discussion groups and BBQ’s. Our Activities Officer ensures all guests enjoy a wide range of interesting, entertaining and relaxing activities. In addition, plenty of free time ensures that guests can mingle and enjoy friendships with each other.
Our professional kitchen staff provide a wide variety of meals and often cater for any guests with special dietary needs ie. diabetic, gluten free, vegan.
Registered Nurses and Assistants in Nursing are employed to look after these Options guests. This includes providing companionship during their stay and attending to their physical needs—dressing, showering, oral hygiene and meal assistance.
During the past year we held 17 Options camps, hosting over 384 clients (Frail Aged, Young Disabled, Intellectually Delayed and Dementia clients).
Not only do these camps enable us to help people in need, they are self funding, which allows us to utilise the surplus for other Breakaway projects.
